Our Story
Juniper is a shared dream between Chef Todd Stein and General Manager TJ Bachmeyer, bringing together decades of experience in Chicago's restaurant scene. The two have built their careers on the belief that great hospitality isn't about formality—it's about making people feel like they belong.
Their return to the North Shore is rooted in giving back—creating an upscale casual space truly for the neighborhood, where world-class hospitality feels effortless and genuine. Highwood has always been a community that gathers, and Juniper was built to be part of that: a place where longtime friends find their regular table, and first-time guests leave feeling like they've found one too.
Behind Juniper
Todd Stein – chef, owner and Chicago hospitality veteran – had a clear idea of the experience he wanted to create: a modern American restaurant and bar that felt warm, welcoming, and worth settling into. A place with thoughtful hospitality, a worldly menu, and a level of finish that felt elevated without ever feeling too precious. He was drawn to the ease and timelessness of a classic French brasserie, but wanted to make it his own.
We began by researching the neighborhood, its landscape, its history, and the stories that shaped it, looking for the details that could give the concept a deeper sense of place.
That exploration ultimately led us to the name “Juniper," a portrait of Chef Todd's vision and the Highwood community, encompassed by the details of our space.
