What inspired the name Juniper?

Naming Juniper started with Highwood itself: its landscape, its history, and the stories that shaped the town. We were looking for details that would root the restaurant in a real sense of place, and "Juniper" is where that search led.

Highwood takes its name from the "high woods" that once covered the ridge. Juniper is a native tree that still grows there, and local birds have been known to feast on its overripe, fermented berries and end up a little tipsy. The town's history has a similar spirit. Its proximity to Fort Sheridan made Highwood a lively gathering place of taverns, gambling, and nightlife, earning it the nickname "Whisky Junction."

What kind of restaurant is Juniper?

Juniper is an upscale-casual Modern American restaurant and bar from Chef Todd Stein. Our menu pairs timeless American classics with fresh artisanal sushi and a raw bar.

What are your hours of operation?

We serve dinner six nights a week during the following hours:

Tuesday – Thursday: 4:30 PM – 9:30 PM

Friday – Saturday: 4:30 PM – 10:30 PM

Sunday: 4:30 PM – 9 PM

Please note that our kitchen closes 30 minutes before the restaurant.

How do I make a reservation at Juniper?

Reservations can be made directly through OpenTable. While reservations are recommended for our main dining room, we always keep space open for walk-ins! You’re always welcome to pop in for small bites at our bar, cocktails in our lounge, or sushi bar seating. We’ll do our best to accommodate any dinner-service walk-ins.

Do you offer takeout or online ordering?

We'll begin offering takeout and online ordering in October! We’ll make a formal announcement once online ordering is available through our partner platforms.

Is there a dress code at Juniper?

There is no dress code at Juniper. Our style is upscale casual. We love high-touch, polished service, but we leave the stiffness at the door. Whether you're dressed up for date night, meeting friends in jeans after work, or gathering with family on Sunday, you’ll fit right in.

Can Juniper host private events or group gatherings?

We’d love to celebrate with you! Juniper features a dedicated semi-private event space ideal for milestone birthdays, rehearsal dinners, family gatherings, and corporate dinners. Please reach out to our team at teej@juniperhighwood.com to discuss bookings.

Can you accommodate food allergies or dietary restrictions?

Genuinely caring for our guests is at the heart of our hospitality. Our team happily accommodates gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan dining preferences, as well as specific food allergies. Simply let your server know when you're seated, or add a note to your OpenTable reservation.
